Consumers

I stopped in to my grand-parents' house and looked through their collection of Mason jars. They have so many different ones. This one says Consumers and so I filled it with receipts from my purse and surrounded myself with possessions.

A wonderful Message by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air,but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer,to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember,to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

Best of HDR Images:
In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminance between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than current standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wide dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.
The two main sources of HDR imagery are computer renderings and merging of multiple photographs, the latter of which in turn are individually referred to as low-dynamic-range or standard-dynamic-range photographs.
Tone-mapping techniques, which reduce overall contrast to facilitate display of HDR images on devices with lower dynamic range, can be applied to produce images with preserved or exaggerated local contrast for artistic effect.

HDR photography is controversial for many photographers. On the other hand, they are very popular with the non-shooting public. You only need to look at the photo magazine covers screaming for your attention from the new stands.

I am not comfortable with the process in that if you are not doing blending, then you can easily lose control over your image. I am not satisfied with some of these images, but I believe that we should document our work, if for no other reason that going back after a year and reviewing the earlier images…did they hold up or not?

I do think HDR as a concept will be an important subject for the future. I expect that in my lifetime there will be cameras that take perfect DOF images without any software intervention. For what it is worth, I have tested all the available programs and read three books. I settled on Nik’s HDR EFEX Pro program for several reasons. If you use Nik Filters you will find the program very user friendly. They have a very wide range of alternative processes, which you can easily customize. I have been very impressed with the E-Book “HDR Efex Guide to HDR Efex Pro by Jason Odell and Tony Sweet. Only order the book if you are going to use the Nik HDR program.

Some of these images (Prague and Alaska) were done with the Lucas software, which is similiar in it effects and was an early forerunner of the process.
